I'm gonna hold a couple polls on some specs for the charity guitar. One for body shape, rosette, and purfling. They will go up within a few days so if you have any suggestions for any of the poll selections speak up. |

The SJ is deeper than an OM, and in the case of the OLF SJ, it's a bit bigger in a few other ways, but not by much. As we speak, Ameritage is working out a final prototype for an SJ case to be added to their line of stock case sizes. It will fit the OLF SJ nicely. It will also fit my SJ nicely, which is more of an Olson/Ryan clone than the OLF version. I have the first prototype, and it's an exceptional case. |

Id vote for the OM too. I have heard from a lot of builders that they build more OM's that most other models, SO its likely to attract a larger bidding audience when its auctioned off. Secondly, I agree if a case could be had "off the rack" and not custom made, it would be nice. However, I'm guessing that Ameritage or CedarCreek would be happy to donate a custom made case for any shape we make. Its such a worthy cause. I'm not wanting to throw out a generous offer by Michaels friend, as that is very kind, but rather just adding some food for thought. |

The SJ is probably the most popular model of modern guitar makers today. |

Hi All, Although I'm new to the board, I am Not new to charity builds. My wife and I have done 5 guitars and 2 custom dulcimers over the last several years. What we have learned is you can go over board and get to creative with inlay and end up with a beatiful wall hanging for someone with lots of money but no talent. Our last build was a very simple build, but invovled a group of cerebral palsy patients. We modified our jigs so the residence of the home could help with the construction. The inlay was simple an angel that the home uses as a sign and the name of the home inlayed on the fingerboard.It wa a very time consuming build, we had to drive 3 1/2 hours to the home and it took almost a full year to finish. The residents did about 75% of the work, and it was a very moving experience for my wife daugther and me. Although that guitar was not auctioned, it was presented to a very geneour musician who has helped the home for the last 15 years. It was played for the residence and then put on display at the musicians' museum. My advice? Keep it simple but tasteful and remember the new owner might not be a player, just a supporter of your cause. |
